Switch 2 Announcement

Written by: Brady Prevost

After a long wait Nintendo fans and gamers awoke today with the official announcement of the Switch successor, officially now known as the Nintendo Switch 2, as well as the first look at a what seems to be a New Mario Kart game.

So as Nintendo officially showed off the Switch 2 today and I am so excited sporting a sleeker more modern look to the original switch, featuring what looks like magnetic joy-cons, as well as a new kick stand. The entire systems seem to be bigger, with a larger screen, a charging port on top, as well as what looks like new joy-con functionality, with some kind of sliding ability. The new Joy-cons seem to have two new buttons on the back which to me look like they could be analogue functionality, but that is entirely speculation. The system looks interesting, but I don’t have anymore information than anyone else right now, it’s a new switch system, and that’s all we really know for sure, other then the reveal of what looks to be a new Mario Kart game. The Switch two will also be fully backward compatible with the Switch, which is amazing, meaning we can hopefully play more demanding switch games like Tears of the Kingdom at higher framerates with less lag and frames drops. It is also likely that the Switch 2 will keep most, if not all of the Switch’s services, like Nintendo Switch online, and the Eshop. However, I hope the Eshop gets an upgrade due to how slow, bland and laggy it is on switch. But only time will tell what this consol has in store for us, and it is going to be a while before that Switch 2 Direct, but I am looking forward to it, now let’s move onto talking about the new Mario Kart shall we.

Now there isn’t much to go over with this small look we got, we have a bunch of characters in the video, as well as a small look at one or two tracks. The game also sports some new character designs for some of the characters, Mario and Luigi look more like there appearances in the game Super Mario Brother’s Wonder, but Donkey Kong looks more like his Super Mario Bro’s Movie design which I am not sure about for the games, but I am optimistic it will look good. Now one thing I think everyone is wondering about is will this game be better then Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and only time will tell on that front, I personally am unsure if it will be possible. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is my favorite racing gaming of all time, everything about the way it controls feels perfect, and intuitive even if some of the tracks aren’t the best in my opinion with 96 of them it has by far the most amount of content in any Mario Kart game. So, I am a little nervous but hopefully optimistic and excited to see if this game is equal to or better then the games that came before it. But even if it isn’t, the switch 2 is going to be fully backward compatible with the Switch meaning we can play Mario Kart Deluxe on there hopefully with a higher resolution as well as 60 fps when playing with more then two people on one console. But other then pure speculation and combing over this trailer again and again for the next three months, we will have to wait here as well, even thought there definitely is a chance of getting a look at the game next month if there is a February Nintendo Direct. But again, only time will tell.

I am so happy to finally have this announcement and first look at the console, and am looking forward to many games to come out on it this year, be it Mario Kart 9, a new big 3D Mario game, a 2.5D Mario game along the lines of 3D Land, and 3D world, Metroid Prime 4 Beyond, or perhaps finally getting ports of the Wii U Zelda remasters. No matter what it is, I am looking forward to the switch 2 and its games. It also seems others are as well as the announcement video gained over 12 million views and 850k likes on YouTube in under 12 hours, and that number is sure to climb. I have been a Nintendo fan all my life, growing up with the Wii, Dsi Xl, Wii U, 3ds, and of course the switch, this will be mine and many others first Nintendo console release since we became adults, and we won’t have to wait for Christmas this time. Anyways let me know what your thoughts are on the Switch 2, check out the Announcement video if haven’t already, head on over to my YouTube channel if you want to hear me ramble about this announcement and Mario Kart, and of course have a great day, and make sure to PLAY, LOUD, LOTS, AND TOGETHER! :)
